Nintendo alongside Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
Similar to the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will reunite with some well-known personalities, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also includes nods to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The feature will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is scheduled to arrive near the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the film, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo has a set of three fresh titles officially announced for 2026, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
