A senior officer who rushed to the aid of a fellow officer that got attacked by a blade-wielder has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Courage.
Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a knife to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver subsequent to a traffic accident in the area in summer 2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Policeman knifed," the constable was heard to say over his radio.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording shared by the force depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, approach to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade outstretched.
He ran into the officer who lost balance and dropped to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor although being continually attacked with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a open target, bringing the struggle to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "I need something on my neck now, I got knifed in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple open wounds to his neck and more cuts to his limbs and torso, while Sgt Foster suffered slash wounds.
Officials stated Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stop his fellow officer's blood loss before medical personnel reached the scene.
The new award arrives subsequent to the trio of policemen won organizational Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the local union branch in April 2024.
They were also awarded a Regional Bravery Award in summer 2024.
"The efforts of all three officers eventually rescued one another and meant no civilians suffered any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, as stated by officials.
