The athlete achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic champion, who earned bronze at the global championships recently, dominated an impressive victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.

"The environment out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The women-only meet packed Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to award the winners with their crowns.

Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also drew several top athletes, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
