Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have discovered numerous engaging independent titles. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a character that is literally a dung striving to travel to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. Across one hundred fifty levels, battle mini-bosses and access a store to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Plan your movements carefully, since one error means beginning again. Jump using floating orbs to launch yourself to new heights, traverse crumbling ledges, and interact with triggers to unlock secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS for buying more difficult stages where gameplay intensifies.
Graphically, the experience shows off vibrant environments and a killer soundtrack. The simple visual style featuring morphing abstract forms may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though tough to recall other games where you control a coiled turd, gaming have long featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references appears a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned notable accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is ready now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to arrive on PC in the fall.
