The EU could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the United States on five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’

European leaders including the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions were placed on figures that were central to efforts to enact laws governing American tech companies.

“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
