Devastated HK Inhabitants Shocked as Major Inferno Destroys Residential Blocks

"Moving near the area, the temperature intensifies and you can feel it, with the smoke being particularly heavy."

University student Thomas Liu was among the countless people gathered at the scene of a tragic blaze that engulfed significant parts of the multi-block housing complex in the city's Tai Po area.

At least thirty-six people have died in Wednesday's catastrophic inferno so far, with numerous still missing, suggesting that this figure will possibly rise.

"We're facing a tragedy," the witness commented about the incident, adding that he had seen a body being taken away from the area.

Over a one thousand additional people were compelled to vacate the development as the fire expanded, with many making their way to emergency facilities that have been established to shelter them.

The fire is slowly being contained, but emergency responders report they do not know when it will be entirely extinguished.

Fire could be observed coming from specific homes as countless people looked on in silence.

"I am devastated. We have so numerous neighbours and acquaintances. I cannot comprehend what is going on now. Observe, all the units are just on fire. I do not know what to accomplish. I wish the authorities can assist us to find stability after this."

A female resident explained that her friends dwell inside the structure and she was waiting to learn if they were able to get out.

A long-term resident, who has dwelled in building number two of the residential estate for in excess of forty annums, recalled listening to "a tremendous explosion" and observing flames break out in a nearby structure.

"I immediately went to my apartment to collect my belongings," the senior inhabitant remarked.

"I don't even know how I emotionally at this moment. I'm just considering about where I'm going to sleep overnight because I likely will not go back home."

While the source of the blaze that overwhelmed the multiple multi-story buildings remains unidentified, the fire are believed to have rapidly expanded through the temporary structures that covered the complexes, which were experiencing improvements.

Several people have voiced outrage that such a massive incident could have taken place and criticised the response.

"In cases where there's a brush fire, they will deploy aircraft and dispense water bombs, but why is there zero deployment and how can they leave further structures ablaze?" questioned another resident of Wang Fuk Court.

"The community is so proximate to the emergency response center and we believed the fire could be put out quickly, but now the blaze has advanced. I'm so discouraged," she continued.

The resident mentioned that she had been provided no instructions from the local administration on where to seek support.

Multiple area residents had provided essentials to the affected individuals - consisting of many of blankets and thermal aids.

When asked about their sentiments regarding the fire, locals voiced that "local administration is incompetent" and that they were "immensely distraught".

"We don't want to see any further victims," remarked a resident.

An older female who resides in an apartment in the affected blocks mentioned she was absent when the fire broke out but that she is concerned about her apartment because it is without coverage.

"I'm extremely troubled that I have no residence to return to currently," she added.
