Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
